A big older population, unevenly served

Bridgeport: two campuses on Park Avenue
Much of Bridgeport's licensed care is on two North End campuses on Park Avenue, each pairing a nursing home with assisted living. One of them, Mozaic Senior Life, also has a DPH consent order dated May 10, 2024 on the department's Regulatory Action Orders page, which families can read in full from its facility page. Bridgeport also has a nursing home on Main Street and a residential care home. Bridgeport Hospital and St. Vincent's Medical Center serve the city.
Shelton: more care than its size suggests
Shelton has four nursing homes, assisted living along the Bridgeport Avenue corridor and on Beard Sawmill Road, and residential care homes, one of them at an address shared with a nursing home. Two of its assisted living licenses are held under corporate names, BSL Shelton LLC and Care Link Corporation, a reminder to search by address. Griffin Hospital in Derby, just across the Housatonic, sits outside Fairfield County.
Stratford, Trumbull and Fairfield
Stratford has two nursing homes under the Lord Chamberlain name at the same Main Street address, and an assisted living license issued in 2023. Trumbull has several assisted living licenses, two issued in 2026 after operator changes, and one nursing home. Fairfield has more nursing homes than most suburbs its size and assisted living licenses including Maplewood at Southport and Sturges Ridge of Fairfield. Monroe and Easton families usually compare Trumbull, Shelton and Newtown.
Costs on the eastern side
Nursing home private rates reported to DPH vary across these towns, as the table shows, and they are generally below the highest rates in lower Fairfield County. Assisted living prices are not published by town. For families on modest incomes, the Connecticut Home Care Program for Elders and HUSKY C are central to planning; both are explained on our costs pages, and the Southwestern Connecticut Agency on Aging can screen for them.
Choosing between towns
Families in Bridgeport often weigh a nursing home close to the family against assisted living in Trumbull, Fairfield or Shelton. Traffic on Route 8, Route 25 and I-95 can make a short distance feel long at rush hour. Think about who visits most and from where, and use the town pages to compare what is licensed nearby.
Residential care and smaller settings
Bridgeport and Shelton hold several of the county's few residential care homes, which provide a room, meals, supervision and medication help under their own DPH license. For a parent who is fairly independent but should not live alone, they can be a lower-cost alternative to assisted living. DPH's export does not include their bed counts, so ask each home how many residents it is licensed for, and whether it has a waiting list. The residential care home roster lists every active license in the county with its dates.
