What is Stamford Senior Advisor?

Stamford Senior Advisor is a free senior care referral and advisory service for families in Stamford and the rest of Fairfield County, Connecticut, from Greenwich on the New York line to Shelton on the Housatonic and north to Sherman.

We publish what Connecticut's regulators actually require, what the published cost data says, and every licensed provider in the state's own records; then a local advisor helps you narrow it down. Facilities pay us a referral fee when a family moves in, which is why the service is free to you. You should know that up front.

How does Connecticut license assisted living and memory care?

Connecticut licenses the assisted living services agency (ALSA) that provides hands-on care, while the building is a managed residential community that registers with DPH; memory care is a dementia special care unit or program run by a licensed ALSA, and DPH does not publish a list of them.

Every ALSA needs a registered nurse supervisor and a nurse on call around the clock, but no staff-to-resident ratio. Read the full licensing explanation or Connecticut's dementia care rules.

What does senior care cost in Connecticut?

CareScout's 2025 Connecticut medians are about $8,676 a month for assisted living (fourth highest among the states), $15,208 for a semi-private nursing home room and about $36 an hour for home care; no Fairfield County figure is published.

Fairfield County nursing homes reported a median private-room rate of $616 a day to DPH. The Connecticut Home Care Program for Elders can pay for assisted living services but not rent, so the payment plan matters as much as the price. See costs and paying for care.

Where should a Fairfield County family start?

Start from the situation, not the care type: a hospital discharge from Stamford, Norwalk, Bridgeport or Danbury, a fall, a dementia diagnosis, an exhausted caregiver or money running out each point to different first steps.
